ECA 2023 ... Interpretation & Performance Studies Interest Group Call for Submissions

Call for Papers: Harboring Innovation
Eastern Communication Association 114th Annual Convention
March 29-April 2, 2023
Submission Deadline: October 16, 2022, 11:59PM ET

The Interpretation & Performance Studies Interest Group invites submissions for the 2023 Eastern Communication Association convention, held in Baltimore, MD March 29-April 2, 2023. The deadline for submissions is October 16, 2022, 11:59pm ET.

The Interpretation & Performance Studies Interest Group considers performance a method of communication inquiry and embodied way of knowing and presenting information. In that presentation, we welcome a variety of submission formats including individual and papers and performances, performance panels, paper panels, film submissions, and spotlight sessions addressing or responding to a variety of topics, issues, situations. We especially encourage members to address issues related to the convention theme: Harboring Innovation. Jennifer Waldeck, First Vice President & Primary Convention Planner, notes that “When the 2020 ECA convention was canceled less than two weeks before its scheduled date, innovation probably meant something different to us all than it does today.” As such, ECA 2023 is an opportunity for us to bring our best ideas for innovating the field, our scholarship, our teaching, and our outreach.

In keeping with the theme of Harboring Innovation, we invite you to consider submissions that creatively address the innovative ways through which we have engaged during and throughout the pandemic, and how we might embrace opportunities to contribute to a post-pandemic future. What innovations have we incorporated that allow for reflection on our teaching, research, and professional development? What teaching, scholarly, or professional development innovations harbor relevant, cutting-edge, and unique opportunities in our Interpretation & Performance Studies environments? What opportunities and challenges do we face in our endeavor to harbor innovations in our discipline, on our campuses, and in our communities? We are excited to discuss, deliberate, and learn how our innovations will inform us about the potential paths we have to move forward.

The Interpretation & Performance Studies Interest Group at ECA utilizes Attendee Interactive for all submissions and blind-reviews. Upload your submission (completed paper, panel, and round table discussion) at the following site: https://ww4.aievolution.com/eca2301/
