Community College Interest Group Call for Submissions 

104th Annual Eastern Communication Association Convention 

“Confluence”

April 24-28, 2013

The Community College Interest Group invites submissions for the 104thannual convention of the Eastern Communication Association to be held at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA, April 24-28, 2013. The convention theme is “Confluence.” Drawn from the confluence of where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers form the Ohio River, our First Vice President and convention planner, DanetteIfert Johnson, explains that the convention theme is “exemplified by the long tradition of communication research bringing together ideas from various perspectives of communicator, message, channel, and context to better understand how humans create meaning and relationships.”The convention theme allows us an exciting opportunity to come together to explore how our various interests as communication scholars intersect one with another.  We encourage submissions to embrace a variety of perspectives, theories, and applications as well as to reach out to colleagues in other interest groups and institutions to consider ways of celebrating the convergence of our work.  

Keeping the convention theme of “Confluence” in mind, please submit your work using the following guidelines:

For program/panel submissions

  • A thematic title for the program
  • Names of the chair and respondents, if any. Please do not have chairs act as respondents.
  • Names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and institutional affiliations of all participants
  • Titles and abstracts for each paper or presentation
  • A program copy (NO MORE than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program
  • A detailed rationale for the program/panel
  • A statement of professional responsibility (located below)
  • Indicate any technology needs (keeping in mind that equipment rental is very expensive)  Please read ECA’s technology policy as you consider your technology needs: ECA Technology Policy  Reasonable requests for technology support will not be met unless they accompany the proposal submission.

For roundtable discussion submissions

  • A thematic title for the roundtable discussion
  • Name of the chair
  • Names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and institutional affiliations of all participants
  • A program copy (NO MORE than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program
  • A detailed rationale for the roundtable discussion
  • A statement of professional responsibility (located below)
  • Indicate any technology needs (keeping in mind that equipment rental is very expensive)  Please read ECA’s technology policy as you consider your technology needs: ECA Technology Policy  Reasonable requests for technology support will not be met unless they accompany the proposal submission.

Statement of professional responsibility

In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/We agree to present this panel or paper if it is accepted and programmed. I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA’s annual meeting must register and pay required fees.

Submission deadline is October 15, 2012.  Please send completed submissions as a file attachment (.docx, .doc, or .rtf formats are acceptable) to Susan Ward, sward@dccc.edu.  Please use “ECA 2013 Submission” as the subject line.
