ECA 110th Convention - Interpersonal Communication Interest Group Call for Papers

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION INTEREST GROUP

110th EASTERN COMMUNICATION ASSOCIATION CONVENTION

Creating Our Future Providence, Rhode Island April 10-14, 2019 

The Interpersonal Communication Interest Group is seeking paper and panel submissions for ECA's 110th Annual Convention to be held at the Omni Providence Hotel from April 10-14, 2019. The convention will be built around the idea of “Creating Our Future” as a discipline, in which scholarship is used to create an understanding of interpersonal interactions and relationships with the goal of transforming lives, communities, and organizations. Submissions must be received by the end of the day on October 15, 2018.

Individual Paper Submissions:

Individual papers are completed papers that report original research, provide an extensive literature review, or showcase some other form of scholarship. Papers that are to be considered will be no more than 25 double-spaced pages, using Times New Roman font and 1-inch margins (excluding title page, abstract, references, and appendices), and comply with the guidelines set forth in APA 6th edition.

Please note presenters are encouraged to present without technology. 

ECA will now be using Attendee Interactive to manage submissions and reviews. This is the same system used by the National Communication Association so you may be familiar with it. The deadline for submissions remains the same, October 15, 2018 at 11:59 PM. You will be prompted to create a new User ID and Password to submit your work. An email will be sent to the membership in the next couple of months to announce when Attendee Interactive will be open for submission. Additional information, including a link to the submission page, will be sent to ECA members on the day the submission website opens. 

The Interest Group invites two types of submission and the specific requirements for each type follows. 

Submission Guidelines for Completed Papers 

Papers should be written in accordance with APA 6th edition. The following fields will be completed for individual submissions: 

  • Title
  • Description (aka. Abstract) including the Professional Responsibility Statement.
  • Student Paper
  • Debut Submission
  • Special requests
  • Audio Visual Form
  • Upload final paper or additional documents (file types accepted:Word or PDF).

Submission Guidelines for Panel/Program Proposals  

Please submit panel/program proposals is one MS Word file (.doc or .docx). Proposals should be written according to APA 6th edition. Include the following items in all panel/program submissions: 

  • Thematic Title
  • Participants (Names & Affiliations) including chair and respondent.
  • Estimated Attendance
  • Special requests
  • Rationale
  • Audio Visual Form
  • Upload supporting documents that include titles and abstract for each paper or presentation, program copy (no more than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program, and Statement of Professionalism (see below).

If you have scheduling requests due to religious or cultural needs, please indicate your needs at the time of the submission, so that accommodations can be made. For additional information about the convention, including short courses and other programming, please see the ECA website available at www.ecasite.org. A paper or panel should only be submitted to a single interest group.

Statement of Professional Responsibility

In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. If this submission is accepted and programmed, I/We agree to register for the 2019 ECA Convention, pay fees, and present in Providence. I/We understand that presenters with last minute emergencies must make arrangements as possible for an alternate presenter as well as communicate their absences to both the Interest Group Planner and ECA VP; no shows will be removed from the official program.
