Lecturer in Public Communication

The University of Vermont (UVM) invites applicants for a full-time, renewable, non-tenure track Lecturer position within the Department of Community Development and Applied Economics (CDAE) with expertise in Public Communication. This is a 9-month position expected to start in August 2018.

Qualified applicants must possess a Masters or Ph.D. at the time of appointment, and a commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and advising. The successful candidate will be able to teach introductory to advanced courses in applied communication. Presence on campus for instruction, advising, and department meetings is expected. We are seeking candidates with the ability to instruct a variety of class formats including seminar, lab, lecture, online, hybrid, and service learning.

Preferred qualifications include teaching and/or professional experience in public communication as applied to sustainable business or non-profit organizations, practice in service learning and community development, and experience using new media technologies. Potential courses may include: Introduction to Public Communication, Newswriting, Strategic Writing, Public Communication Media, Community Journalism, Data Visualization, Information Graphics and Digital Media. A willingness and ability to teach across our majors is desired, and there is the potential for teaching at the graduate level.

The CDAE Department is a transdisciplinary unit with its scholarly activity focused on sustainable local, regional and international communities through research, education, and outreach. We seek a colleague who will advance the department’s expertise and offerings in public communication. CDAE offers undergraduate majors in Community Entrepreneurship, Community and International Development, and Public Communication. We also offer a Master of Science (MS) in Community Development and Applied Economics, and the Master of Public Administration (MPA).
