Welcome to the Eastern Communication Association (ECA), the oldest professional communication association in the United States. The organizations first groundbreaking meeting was in 1910 at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. Under the title of the Eastern Public Speaking Conference, that first gathering brought together 15 college public speaking professors from five states. ECA continues to innovate as we welcome undergraduate and graduate students, faculty from K-12, and professors from community colleges through the largest universities in a convention that highlights both teaching and research.
In 2013, we will gather at the beautiful Omni William Penn in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for our 104th convention. First Vice President Danette Ifert Johnson of Ithaca College has chosen the theme Confluence to guide us as we plan for the convention. This coming year will be full of opportunities with the bi-annual Basic Course conference on Wednesday, April 24th, followed by three full days of creative programming and spectacular social events, as well as the inclusion of the Third Annual James C. McCroskey & Virginia P. Richmond Undergraduate Scholars Conference.
Those who attended the 2012 convention in Cambridge came away with a renewed sense of dedication to the discipline, as they connected with colleagues from all over the U.S. and the world and engaged in conversation about the discipline that draws us together in so many ways.
Mark your calendars and plan now to join us April 24-28, 2013!
Nancy J. Willets, President
