ECA 2014 Convention - Special Events Information

ECA 2014 is less than two weeks away. Throughout the conference there are a variety of special events you should consider attending. Below is a list of activities to take part in while in Providence.

Thursday, April 24:

ECA Plenary Session: The Integrity of Dissent: A ‘Lively Experiment’ on the State of Dissent in Our Discipline,” The centerpiece of ECA 2014 is the plenary session, a panel of leading ECA voices exploring together how dissent plays out within our own discipline and affects our professional lives, and how we experience the expression and suppression of dissent in the academy. 4 PM in Narragansett A.

The ECA Welcome Reception: Immediately following the Plenary Session.

Dr. James Carey Memorial Ceremony: Come join us as we celebrate the late Dr. James Carey and his contributions to the communication field at the Ri Ra Irish Pub on Thursday, April 24 from 8-9:30 p.m. Come and say a few words or just come and mingle with colleagues.

Friday, April 25:

ECA Awards Ceremony: Honor your colleagues with your presence as ECA recognizes its’ top scholars, teachers, and contributors. 11 am in Narragansett A. A light reception to follow.

Baseball Game and Panel: It's ECA Night at the ballpark on Friday, April 25. Join us at the Communication Theories and Baseball Stadia panel at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25 and watch the Pawtucket Red Sox take on the Rochester Redwings right after at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $30 dollars for the game and transportation. Ten tickets remain available. Email Kathie Cesa at eca@kocmemberservices.com or inquire at ECA registration so if if any remain available.

Lizzy Borden took an axe. Or did she? Join Annette Holba, author and former homicide detective, as she provides facts often left out or ignored by those who believe Lizzie to be guilty of the deaths of her father and step-mother. Following the presentation there will be a tour of the Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, MA. Registration is $30 for the event. Fifteen Tickets remain. Documentary and Panel: For those wishing to remain at the hotel Friday night, come view the award-winning documentary “No Way Out But One” and the accompanying panel discussion “Media Silence vs. Media Dissent: When NOT Covering a Story Perpetuates a Lie” immediately following. The event is hosted by film producer Garland Waller. Consult the ECA Program for time and place. This event is free to all attendees!
