ECA 2013 Convention - Basic Course Conference - Wednesday, April 24

Praxis: Balancing the Basic Course

Hello Colleagues,

As you begin to make your preparations for the 2013 ECA Convention in Pittsburgh, I encourage you to consider joining us for the Basic Course Conference on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 9am-5pm. This year’s theme is Praxis: Balancing the Basic Course.

As the Basic Course becomes more central to college and university curricula, and as legislative attention makes higher education reform a priority, faculty must balance demands from multiple internal and external stakeholders.  Panels will address defining core competencies of the basic course, delivering the basic course across campuses, exploring attitudes about and the centrality of the basic course and modernizing the basic course through open source content and technology. The keynote address, delivered by Joshua Compton of Dartmouth College, is entitled “Defining (v.) Talk, Defining (adj.) Talk, and the Basic Course”.
