The outing is part of an ongoing examination of ballparks as communicative space. Friday afternoon, the Media Ecology Association & Applied Communication Interest Group will co-sponsor “THE MEDIA ECOLOGY OF THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES’ PNC PARK” at 3 pm in the Lawrence Welk Room.

Special Guest Terry Rodgers will share his insights and experience as Pittsburgh Pirates’ Manager of Business Communication & Social Media. Panelists will build on their work, published in Communication and the Baseball Stadium: Community, Fandom, Memory, and Commodification (Peter Lang, 2017), to discuss the ecology of PNC Park.,

The panel explores the ballpark as a place of communication—a place with its own communication ecology: between structure and game, between fans and ballplayers, among spectators. PNC Park is an urban place, an urban space, and a "green cathedral" in the middle of Pittsburgh.

To paraphrase the great Ernie Banks: Friday, April 27th will be a “great day to play two.” Join the panelists in a fascinating discussion of the ballpark as social space. Then, come on out to the ballpark for ECA Night!
