ECA 2018 - Call for Papers: Argumentation & Forensics Interest Group

109th Annual ECA Convention
April 25-29, 2018

Argumentation & Forensics Interest Group

Call for Submissions

“Building Bridges”

Submission Deadline: October 15, 2017

The Argumentation & Forensics Interest Group invites submissions for the 2018 ECA Convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We welcome submissions that engage the conference theme, “Building Bridges,” by exploring the many bridges that we have built in our scholarly communities, along with the bridges that still need to be built, and those in disrepair. We encourage submissions that bridge gaps between theory and practice, between research and teaching, between individuals and societies, and more.

Our Interest Group invites submissions on all topics related to argumentation and forensics. We encourage submissions from all methodological, theoretical, and critical orientations. We accept proposals for individual papers, panels, round-table discussions, workshop sessions, symposia, open forums, public debates, and community programs.

Submissions must be sent to the 2018 Argumentation & Forensics program planner, Jade Olson, via email with attached documents (.doc, .docx, or .pdf) to jade.olson@gmail.com.

  • A detachable title page that includes the paper’s author, affiliation, and contact information.
  • A one-page abstract.
  • The word “Debut” if the author has not presented previously at a regional or national conference.
  • The Statement of Professional Responsibility (see below).
  • Request for presentation technology, if applicable.

Submission of Program/Panel Proposals

  • Program copy as it should appear in the final convention program (please limit to 75 words).
  • Detailed rationale for the program/panel.
  • The Statement of Professional Responsibility (see below).
  • Request for presentation technology, if applicable.

All submissions should include the Statement of Professional Responsibility:

In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. If this submission is accepted and programmed, I/We agree to register for the 2018 ECA Convention, pay fees, and present in Pittsburgh. I/We understand that presenters with last minute emergencies must make arrangements as possible for an alternate presenter as well as communicate their absences to both the Interest Group Planner and ECA VP; no shows will be removed from the official program.

Note that submissions should be sent only to a single interest group or affiliate organization.

Acceptance notifications will be sent out on January 15, 2018. Please contact Jade Olson with any questions.
