ECA 2018 - Call for Papers Reminder: Interpersonal Communication Interest Group

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION INTEREST GROUP

109th EASTERN COMMUNICATION ASSOCIATION

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
April 25-29, 2018

The Interpersonal Communication Interest Group is seeking paper and panel submissions for ECA's 109th Annual Convention to be held at the Omni William Penn Hotel from April 25-29, 2018. The theme “Building Bridges” invites the exploration of cross-disciplinary research and encourages finding possibilities for connecting our research to theory and practice, creating new approaches to teaching, and collaborating with communities for service and civic engagement opportunities. Submissions must be received by the end of the day on October 15, 2017.

Individual Paper Submissions:

Individual papers are completed papers that report original research, provide an extensive literature review, or showcase some other form of scholarship. Papers that are to be considered will be no more than 25 double-spaced pages, using Times New Roman and 1-inch margins (excluding title page, abstract, references, and appendices), and comply with the guidelines set forth in APA 6th edition.

Submissions must be made electronically (Word or PDF) to Meredith Harrigan at harrigan@geneseo.edu and include two files. Please write “ECA Paper Submission” as the subject line and include in the text of the email any special requests. Please note that presenters are encouraged to present without technology.

File 1.  Title page

  1. Title of the paper
  2. Author’s affiliation, mailing address, telephone number and email address (If the paper has multiple authors, indicate who will present at the convention.)
  3. Identify student submissions by indicating if the student is a graduate or undergraduate student on the title page.
  4. Include the word “Debut” for authors who have not presented previously at a regional or national convention.

File 2. The main document

  1. Title of the paper
  2. A one-page abstract on the second page
  3. Statement of Professional Responsibility (see below)
  4. Main document, including references, tables, charts, and appendices
  5. No information identifying the author may appear in the body of your description or your submitted paper file, including the file properties.

Panel Submissions:

We welcome submissions for a variety of programs including thematic panels and round tables. Submission must be made electronically (Word or PDF) to Meredith Harrigan at harrigan@geneseo.edu and include two files. Please write “ECA Panel Submission” as the subject line and include in the text of the email any special requests. Please note that panelists are encouraged to present without technology.

File 1. Title page

  1. Title of the panel
  2. Panelists’ (including chair and respondent, if applicable) affiliations, mailing addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses. Note: Chairs should not also be designated as respondents.

File 2. Main document

  1. A title for the panel
  2. Statement of Professional Responsibility (see below)
  3. A description of the panel (maximum 75 words) to appear in the final program.
  4. A title and abstract for each presentation, if a thematic panel.
  5. A detailed rationale for the panel session, which justifies the significance of the panel session as a whole.

A paper or panel should only be submitted to a single interest group.

Statement of Professional Responsibility

In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. If this submission is accepted and programmed, I/We agree to register for the 2018 ECA Convention, pay fees, and present in Pittsburgh. I/We understand that presenters with last minute emergencies must make arrangements as possible for an alternate presenter as well as communicate their absences to both the Interest Group Planner and ECA VP; no shows will be removed from the official program.
