ECA 2017 Convention - Nonverbal Communication Division Updates

Dear Colleagues,

I hope to see you this week in Boston at ECA 2017!  I am excited for this conference and the great scholarship. I wanted to remind you that the Nonverbal Communication Business Meeting will take place on Saturday at 2:00pm in the Dickens Room. Also, please check out some of the panels sponsored by the Nonverbal Communication Division. We have three exciting panels this year!

Thursday 3:30-4:45 Hutchinson Room

Freedom to… Explore the Impact of Technological Innovation on Nonverbal Dynamics Across Contexts

Sponsor: Nonverbal Communication

Chair: Sara Chudnovsky Weintraub, Regis College

Ann Bainbridge Frymier, Miami University
Marian Houser, Texas State University
Candice Thomas-Maddox, Ohio University, Lancaster

The introduction of technological innovations has changed the ways in which we research and teach about nonverbal behaviors across a variety of contexts. Panelists will engage the audience in a roundtable discussion of the evolution of “what” scholars should be examining in terms of nonverbal communication, “why” our research agenda should expand given the prevalence and impact of technologies such as social media, mobile devices, apps, and other innovations on our daily interactions, and “how” we should integrate a discussion of these changes in our classrooms.
