Tenure-track, Assistant Professor - Corporate Communication
Penn State Hazleton
Responsibilities: Teach three courses (9 credits) each semester using traditional and hybrid delivery modes: Teaching assignments may include courses in corporate, non-profit, and government public relations, media and public relations, as well as courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Teaching assignments may require teaching day and/or evening classes as needed. The applicants are also expected to maintain an active research program leading to refereed publications and presentations; participate in professional organizations and in course, curriculum, and program development; advise students and provide career guidance; and participate in campus, university, and community service activities.
The person hired for this position will contribute to a regional baccalaureate program in Corporate Communication. Four Penn State campuses in eastern Pennsylvania offer the program jointly: Penn State Hazleton, Penn State Schuylkill, Penn State Wilkes-Barre, and Penn State Worthington Scranton. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty at the other campuses to deliver a portion of the curriculum to multiple campuses using a variety of distance delivery methods.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Communication Studies with an emphasis on Public Relations, Strategic Communication, or a closely related area of Corporate Communication completed no later than August 1, 2018. Strong ABD candidates will be considered. Evidence of potential in research and publication is expected. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Additionally, candidates should be interested in active and collaborative learning, the use of instructional technology, as well as hybrid and online teaching methods. Prior college-level and online teaching experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment is important.

Penn State Hazleton is a student-centered campus of approximately 800 students. The course work for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as ten baccalaureate degrees, including a B.A. in Corporate Communication, and five associate degrees. This residential campus is located on a wooded ridge near the juncture of I-80 and I-81 in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Students and faculty at Penn State Hazleton have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. The average class size is twenty five students and the student/faculty ratio is 15 to 1, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research. Our students receive a world-class education delivered in a small campus setting; they also have opportunities to participate in undergraduate research projects supervised by faculty members.
