Assistant Professor of Communication

Requirements for the position include: Ph.D. from an accredited university in Communication Studies or related discipline, record or promise of excellence in teaching; and the ability to teach a range of courses across the curriculum, including fundamentals of human communication and others from among the following: small group communication, public address, communication theory, research methods, interpersonal communication or organizational communication.

We seek a candidate who is an effective, dynamic teacher who will engage students inside and outside the classroom. Well qualified ABDs with record of effective teaching will be considered. Preference will be given to a candidate who has a background in applied media studies and/or public relations. We are particularly interested in applicants with teaching strengths in human communication courses, including a team-taught fundamentals of human communication (general studies) course and should be able to teach from among the following courses: small group communication, public address, communication theory, research methods, interpersonal communication or organizational communication.

The Department of Communication houses three majors (Communication Studies, Media Studies and Public Relations). It is recognized as an NCA Rex Mix Program of Excellence. The department includes a faculty that values collaborative work and integrates theory and application across the curriculum. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist in the growth and development of our new media studies major that encompasses the convergence of the traditional and technological media.

Founded in 1890, West Virginia Wesleyan is a private residential liberal arts and sciences college of 1500 undergraduate and graduate students located in the foothills of the Appalachians in Buckhannon, WV, named one of the "100 Best Small Towns in America." The College has over 40 undergraduate academic majors, 10 graduate programs, 19 NCAA Division II sports, comprehensive student life, community engagement, and outdoor recreation programs.
